The Collective of Organizations for the Defense of Human Rights and Democracy (CODDHD) is an apolitical and non-denominational framework for consultation and action which was created on October 8, 2000 by Nigerien human rights organizations. legally recognized. Today the CODDHD has forty-four (44) organizations for the defense of human rights and the promotion of democracy spread across the country. CODDHD was officially recognized in 2010 by Order No. 0727 / MISD / AR / DGAPJ / DLP of October 29, 2010.

The collective has a head office located in Niamey in the Maourey district, with a high-speed internet connection, a telephone line (00227 20 73 29 00 and a PO Box 11611 Niamey-Niger).

The Vision of CODDHD

  • The vision of CODDHD is as follows: A peaceful Niger, lifted out of poverty, respectful of human rights, the rights of women and children, where everyone is equal before the law.

The specific missions of CODDHD:

  1. Promote and protect human rights, consolidate democracy, and promote a culture of peace
  2. Develop a culture of solidarity between members and strengthen their capacity for action
  3. Defend the republican values ​​of the State
  4. Establish the rule of law and independent and equal justice for all
  5. Combating social abuse as well as degrading and degrading practices against the human person

Projects

The CODDHD follows with great interest the evolution of human rights through concrete actions including, among others:

  • The preparation of several reports on the human rights situation in Niger (general, detailed, and thematic);
  • With the technical and financial support of the United Nations System (UNS) in Niger, between 2012 and 2021, awareness-raising and advocacy actions for Niger's respect for its international human rights commitments, including among others: Campaign popularization of international legal instruments for the protection of human rights in Niger; Advocacy for the respect of voluntary commitments made by the State during its passage to the Universal Periodic Review;
  • With the technical and financial support of the IDDH, in 2014, preparation of a report on the human rights situation in prisons in Niger. As part of the drafting of this report, several visits to the various remand centers and custody cells were carried out.
  • With the support of the UNS in the field of UPE, in 2013, the CODDHD played a monitoring and advocacy role for the effective implementation of the recommendations resulting from the first passage of Niger. In this perspective, the CODDHD developed its active contribution to the evaluation of the implementation of the voluntary commitments made by Niger during its first visit to the UPR in February 2011.
  • With the support of the DIHR, in 2014, preparation of a report on the situation of the rights of refugees and displaced persons in Diffa and Zinder following the violence of Boko Haram.
  • With the technical and financial support of the UNS and on its own, since 2012, the CODDHD has drawn up several alternative reports on the implementation of the conventions and treaties to which Niger is a party. These are the ICCPR, ACHPR, CEDAW, ICESCR, CCT, EC and CERD.
  • In 2020, with the support of the French Embassy in Niger, the CODDHD produced a report on the human rights situation in relation to radicalization in prison in Niger;
  • With the support of WANEP, in 2020-2021, an educational campaign for a peaceful, credible and transparent electoral process in Niger;
  • In 2020-2021, with the financial and technical support of OXFAM through the Democracy Good Governance project funded by the Embassy of the Kingdom of Denmark, the CODDHD led an advocacy campaign on the implementation of the 64 related recommendations. with the woman and the child formulated in Niger during its third visit to the Human Rights Council as part of the universal periodic review;
  • In 2021, in collaboration with the Ivorian Coalition of Human Rights Defenders, advocacy to facilitate the adoption of new measures and review current measures to ensure effective respect for human rights and the rights of human rights defenders. human rights in times of crisis in Niger;
  • With the support of OMCT, in 2021, preparation of a report on migration and torture in Niger;
  • In 2021, with the financial and technical support of SHIGA and, in collaboration with the Nigerien Federation of People with Disabilities: Act for the inclusion of people with disabilities in the delivery of public services, by taking into account their needs in the process;

Abdoul Razak, son of Oumarou Magagi (retired Justice of the Peace) and Zeinabou Harouna (housewife), born February 20, 1979 in Niamey.

After graduating from the National School of Administration (ENA) of Niamey (customs and financial management), he continued his professional studies at the Institut Pratique Maïguizo where he obtained his Certificate of Superior Technician in transit-customs.

Today, Inspector of Miscellaneous Contributions for his State, he holds the post of Head of the Private Sector Promotion Service at the Regional Directorate of Commerce of Niamey.

In addition to his professional activities, he is an activist as a human rights defender in Nigerien civil society where he holds important positions of responsibility, including:

- Chairman of the Board of Directors of the association for the fight against juvenile delinquency and child exploitation. "Co-Gna the Mother of the Child";

A devoted advocate of human rights, civil liberties, and education – especially for girls from disadvantaged backgrounds – Mrs. Atta has built a legal and corporate career spanning over 25 years. As a lawyer, she handled high-profile and controversial human rights cases, representing young at-risk women. In her capacity as General Manager at Allan Woods Limited, she oversaw and spearheaded the development of the educational institution to bridge the gap in the area of professional development for Nigerian professionals.

Dr. Abiye M. Iruayenema is an expert sociocognitive research psychologist and strategic communications specialist. He is currently heads a mobile counselling and preventing violent extremism (PVE) initiative, which offers counselling in hard-to-reach traumatized communities in Maiduguri, Borno State. As an experienced academic and researcher, Dr. Iruayenama created vulnerability and needs assessments tools used for a UNICEF funded rehabilitation and reintegration programme for 1,500 Children Associated with Armed Groups. He has delivered several trainings revolving around self-care for humanitarian aid workers, social and emotional learning, as well as addressing psychological trauma in conflict zones.
